Reference Shit

Date of SWatH: After this conversation, I settled on 1342. And considering Snow says the Our Father in canon, that'll be "The year of our Lord, one thousand, three hundred and forty-two".
Hometown/Childhood: Eric was born somewhere in the more mountainous, remote hill country of Tabor, probably near a border somewhere. It was a rural, hinterlands kind of place surrounded by woods and covered in snow more often than not. His father died in the wars when he was around 11ish, and he was largely raised by his mother, who was strict with him (he was a rambuncous kid), but one of those larger than life kind of people - loud and loving with emotions worn on her sleeves. She labored as much as his father had, cutting wood and building things and skinning deer and rabbits, etc, though Eric, once he was old enough, did the hunting. His father had been a huntsman within the village before he went to be a soldier, so he was taught that when he was young and that's the position he filled when he got older. When he came to be 17, they'd meet soldiers on their way through mountain passes going off to fight wars for Tabor and he and the other boys would talk about going out and getting glory for themselves. His mother said it was the dumbest idea ever and that she wouldn't let the king take her son the same way he did her husband, but Eric was set on Making Something Of Himself, and not just hunting down rabbits and deer into his old age - wanted to be big and strong and awesome like he remembered his father - so he went anyway. It made him a shit person. His mom was right. Oops. His mother lives long enough to see him married to Sarah, but dies shortly after. During SWATH, Eric is completely alone.
Timeline/The Wars/Sarah: 17-20: Spent in the wars, traveling around and fighting and being a dbag etc
20-21: Traveled, was a douche, was violent and a bad person and etc. Took mercenary jobs and thieving jobs and smuggling jobs and shady protection detail jobs and was haunted by the things he'd done but drowned it out with drinking and sexing and doing more violence.
21-23: Met Sarah at the festival when he'd made it back near his home. His mother yelled at him enough that he stayed in the village for a month, and went out of his way to bug her. She thought he was super gross. But also told him he's better than that and he's just insulting himself and being afraid to pick his sad self back up :'3 he got pissed and left for a while. It stuck with him, and eventually he wandered back again, and this would sort of be a pattern u til the second year they knew each other and he started to believe her, and maybe grow some of his conscious back, and maybe also talk to her about the shit that happened in the wars, and about himself, and about shit that actually mattered and then maybe he loved her a little.
23-26: Married to Sarah, life is awesome, etc.
26 - Sarah dies.
28 - SWATH happens.
Sarah + Eric's jewelry: Canonically, he'd met her at a festival. I think I remember that the book talks about seeing the flowers in her hair or watching her dance or something, idk. The bone charm Sarah made for him that's in the book I'm calling the bone looking necklace he wears, and I like to also imagine he has Sara's wedding ring on a chain around his neck. The research on if wedding rings were a thing then was kind of hard to pin down, and something said wedding rings were brought into Christian ceremonies around 870 AD, and Eric is Christian, so that'd be a thing - but the ring would just be worn by the bride. Hence, he has Sara's, not one of his own.
